P.G. & Research Department of Zoology is equipped with 2 U.G. laboratories, 1 P.G. laboratory, exclusive research lab for Ph.D students, a Museum, a well stocked library, a store room, 8 lecture halls and 2 faculty rooms besides hygienically maintained rest rooms. The P.G. and Ph.D. research laboratories were equipped with all the necessary equipments to facilitate students for their regular class practicals and Ph.D students to undertake their research in a conducive ambience. The air conditioned 75 seat capacity smart room is available for the students. To cope with modern era of online teaching (Google Meet and Zoom) 2 class rooms were exclusively arranged with proper system.

The laboratories are housed with latest equipments for the benefit of students to undergo digital exposure and to proceed with modern trends in research. A museum is there with an Elephant skull as centre of focus and also it is equipped with spotters, slides, models and charts..

List of various events conducted by the department

• Our department conducted Two-day National Conference on ‘Environmental Protection and Sustainability’ [NCEPS] in association with Indian Academy of Environmental Sciences (IAES), Haridwar on 31st December, 2016 & 01st January, 2017. Dr. Ashok Kumar Saxena former President of Indian Science Congress was the Chief Guest and Dr. Vijayalakshmi Saxena, Executive Member, Indian Science Congress released the Souvenir. Dr. B. N. Pandey, President, Zoological Society of India delivered the Valedictory address.
• Zoological Society Day was celebrated every year in our department. In 2019, as part of this event, we organized special lecture by Dr. M. Deecaraman, Dr.MGR University and Research Institute, Maduravoyal Chennai on the topic of Infertility. Along with we conducted various events such as Quiz, Oral (power point) presentation, Essay competition, Wealth out of waste and T-shirt designing competitions for students.
• Our department conducted Two- day National Conference on Recent advances in Aquaculture (NCRAA 2020) on 6th and 7th February 2020. Dr. K.K. Vijayan, Director, Central Institute of Brackishwater Aquaculture, Chennai inaugurated the conference. Resource persons from CIBA, CMFRI, CIFA Bhubaneswar and Bharathidasan University delivered their lectures in the conference. Researchers, teachers and students from various colleges participated in the conference and presented their research findings in oral and poster presentation. Souvenir was released. Valedictory address was given by Dr. M.G. Ragunathan, Principal, Guru Nanak College, Chennai.
• Organized National Level Online e-Quiz programme on “Role of Immunology in Disease Pandemics” on 30th May 2020. More than 500 participants across over country participated.
• Organized One day Online National Webinar on “Entrepreneurship and Opportunity in Sericulture. Dr. N. Sakthivel, Scientist D, Regional Sericulture Research Station, Central Silk board, Mizoram was a Resource Person and delivered the lecture.
• Organized One day National Webinar on “Recent Advances in Transgenic Animals” – (NWRATA 2021) through Google meet. Dr. J. Goutham, Head, Department of Zoology, Jawaharlal Nehru Rajkeeya Mahavidyalaya Govt College, Andaman & Nicobar Island and Dr.Y. Thangam, Assistant Professor, P.G & Research Department of Zoology, J.K.K. Nataraja College of Arts & Science, Kumarapalayam, Tamilnadu acted as a resource persons.

• Our PG students attended the National seminar on “Animal Research & Ethics” on 20th February 2019 organized by Dept. of. Zoology, Bharathi Women’s College, Chennai.
• Our B.Sc. students participated in Essay writing, Oratorical, Channel Surfing, Ads app, Quiz Competitions held on February, 2019 organized by P.G & Research Dept. of. Zoology, New College, Chennai.
• Our PG students participated in workshop on “Marine Bioresources” organized by P.G & Research Dept. of. Zoology, Madras Christian College, Chennai on 12th and 13th October 2018.
• Our B.Sc. students participated in various events such as Channel Surfing, Ads app, Quiz Competitions held at P.G & Research Dept. of Zoology, Madras Christian College, Chennai on 5th October 2018.
• Our PG students attended National seminar on “Plastic Waste” held on 5th June 2018 which was organized by Zoological Survey of India, Chennai.

Awards / Prizes received by the teachers

• Dr. P. Senthilkumaar, Associate Professor & Head successfully organized ‘National Seminar on Recent Trends in Environment Toxicology’ (RTET) in collaboration with GLR Laboratories PVT. LTD, Chennai on 28th & 29th January, 2011. He acted as organized a ‘National Conference on ‘Environmental Protection and Sustainability’ [NCEPS] in association with Indian Academy of Environmental Sciences (IAES), Haridwar on 31st December, 2016 & 01st January, 2017. He is serving as Academic Member in various city colleges and he is University Representative for Indian Institute of Engineering Technology (IIET), Chennai. He has guided 12 PhD scholars and 17 M.Phil students. Serving as Honorary Scientific Advisor for Association for the Conservation of Indian Raptors (ACIR). He has received various fellowships, awards and medals for his academic achievements. He is the Fellow of Society of Life Sciences (F.S.L.Sc.), Fellow of Society for Applied Biotechnology (F.S.A.B), Fellow of Zoological Society of India (F.Z.S.I) and Fellow of Indian Academy of Environmental Sciences (F.I.A.E.S). He has received Max Planck Research Award in the field of Entomology, Loyola Environmental Award and Best Scientist Award from Pearl Foundation for Excellence in Higher Education.
• Dr. M. Padmaja, Assistant Professor guided 7 PhD students and acted as External Examiner for PhD Viva Voce for more than 7 students is various colleges.
  She was the Chairperson of Board of Studies of B.Sc. Zoology now currently serving as a Chairperson for M.Sc. Zoology Board of examinations, University of Madras.
• Dr. Susan George, Assistant Professor received consolation prize for poster presentation in International conference held on 18-19th June, 2020 at Government of Maharashtra Ismail Yusuf College of Arts, Science & Commerce, Mumbai. She received ‘Young Scientist Award’ in International Conference (25-27th June, 2020) held at School of Life Sciences, B.S. Abdur Rahman Crescent Institute of Science & Technology, Chennai. She now serves as a Chairperson in UG Board of Studies in Zoology, University of Madras and also a Member in Board of Studies in Womens Christian College, Chennai and Justice Basheer Ahmed Sayeed College for Women, Chennai.
• Dr. V. Mohan Raj, Assistant Professor organized Two-day National Conference on Recent advances in Aquaculture (NCRAA 2020) on 6th and 7th February 2020. Later he published the conference proceeding with ISBN number (978-93-90390-36-6) under Nitya Publications, Bhopal.
• Dr.A.Bharathi, Assistant Professor organized one day National Webinar on ‘Recent
  Advances in Transgenic Animals’ (NWRATA 2021) on 30/07/2021. She received
  ‘Excellence in Teaching Award’ in National conference held at National College, Trichy. Received ‘Young Scientist Award’ in international conference sponsored by Tamilnadu State Council of Science and Technology. Served as an External Subject Expert in Selection Committee for selection of candidates for Govt-aided post in Government-Aided Colleges (Autonomous). Served as a Resource Person in In-service Training for School Teachers – Central & State Sponsored Scheme of Teachers Education. Served as a Resource Person and delivered a Special Lecture in the “Green Skill Development Programme (GSDP) for students” sponsored by Ministry of Environment Forest and Climate Change, Govt. of. India, New Delhi. Served as a Resource Person, Chair-Person and received many Best Paper Presentation Awards in DST/DBT/UGC/TNSCST sponsored International, National
  Conferences/Seminars organised by various Universities & Colleges in Tamilnadu.
• Dr.S.Eswari, Assistant Professor organized one day National Webinar on “Entrepreneurship and Opportunity in Sericulture held on 19.07.2021.
• Dr. A. Koodalingam, Assistant Professor served as a Resource Person in Summer Training Program in Biology (STPIB) for M.Sc Biological Sciences students from various Universities and Colleges jointly organized by Academy of Sciences and Department of Zoology, University of Madras, Chennai. He delivered lecture on the topic of ‘Antibodies – structures and generation of diversity’ to the students on 28th July 2021.
