The Department of Physics was established in the year 1979. The department has a strength of 150 students. The Department has full-fledged, spacious and well ventilated Laboratory with all modern facilities. The Department takes every effort takes to impart value based quality education to the students. It does all the needful to produce employable and self-reliant graduates and devoted citizens. Apart from regular academic activities, the Department organizes special lectures and competitions to the students in the name of, the then President of India, Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam, a renowned scientist too, in order to promote basic sciences, human values and to achieve excellence in all aspects. The members of the faculty, in their part, evince interest in attending seminars, symposia, etc., and publishing articles in journals besides taking up research assignments in the form of projects.

The Department of Physics caters to the needs of Physics students in a big way, for the past few decades. The department is well equipped with adequate infrastructural facilities. It is housed with advanced and highly sophisticated instruments to meet the requirements and standards of today. To name a few, the department, even for its routine use in practical classes, uses microprocessors, LED, etc., in addition to possessing the conventionally required equipments meant for teaching physics. With these, it is hoped strongly that these students of physics acquire abundant hands-on experience, in addition to being cognitively stronger, so as to meet the challenges of today.

Dr. A.P.J Abdul Kalam Memorial Lectures

In memory of Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, the Former President of India and Renowned Scientist, the 1st memorial lecture was organized on 15th October 2015. The Chief Guest and Keynote Speaker Dr. S. Gunasekaran, M.Sc., Ph.D., D.Sc., Dean (R & D), St. Peter’s Institute of Higher Education and Research, St. Peter’s University, Chennai 600054 delivered the Memorial Lecture.

2nd Memorial lecture was organized on 14th October 2016. The Chief Guest and Keynote Speaker Mr. Julius Caesar, M.Sc.[Physics], B.Ed., B.A.[Philosophy], M.Sc.[Psychology], M.B.A.[Educational Management] delivered Memorial Lecture.

3rd Memorial lecture was organized on 13th October 2017. The Chief Guest and Keynote Speaker Dr. P. Sagayaraj, M.Sc., B.Ed., M.Sc (His)., Ph.D., Head &Associate Professor, PG & Research Department of Physics, Loyola College, Chennai – 600 034 delivered Memorial Lecture.

4th Memorial lecture was organized on 15th October 2018. The Chief Guest and Keynote Speaker Dr. R. Jayavel, M.Sc., M.Phil., Ph.D., Professor, Crystal Growth Centre, Anna University, Chennai – 600 025 delivered the Memorial Lecture.

5th Memorial lecture was organized on 15th October 2019. The Chief Guest and Keynote Speaker Dr. S. Jerome Das, M.Sc., Ph.D., Head &Associate Professor, PG & Research Department of Physics, [Formerly Dean of Sciences], Loyola College, Chennai – 600 034 delivered Memorial Lecture.

Inauguration of Physics Association

Physics Association” was inaugurated on 12th December 2018. The Chief Guest and Keynote Speaker Dr. R. Gunaseelan, M.Sc., M.Phil., Ph.D., Assistant Professor, Department of Physics, Pachaiyappa’s College for Men, Kanchipuram delivered innovative Lecture.

National Science day & Valedictory function of Physics Association

National Science Day Celebration &Valedictory Function of Physics Association were held on 28.02.2019. The chief guest and keynote speaker Dr. S. Selvakumar, M.Sc., M.Phil., Ph.D., Assistant Professor of Physics, Govt. Arts College for Men, Nandanam, Chennai 600 035 delivered the valedictory address.

Academic year 2019-2020

National Science Day Celebration &Valedictory Function of Physics Association were held on 28.02.2020. The chief guest and keynote speaker Prof. M. Munuswami, Former Professor & Head, Dept. of Physics, Sir Theagaraya College, Chennai delivered the valedictory address.

National Level webinar

A National Level webinar was conducted on 09th June 2020. The keynote speaker Mrs T.P Deepa, Assistant Professor, Faculty of Engineering & Technology, Jain University, Bengaluru, Karnataka delivered a lecture on the topic “Digital Media for Learning and Teaching”.

A National Level webinar was conducted on 05th August 2020. The keynote speaker Dr. P.Mani, M.Sc., Ph.D., Assistant Professor, Department of Physics, Anna University-BIT campus, Tiruchirappalli 620024 delivered a lecture on the topic “Interview Skills”.

A National Level webinar was conducted on 08th August 2020. The keynote speaker Dr. A. Antony Raj M.Sc., Ph.D., Assistant Professor,Department of Physics, St. Joseph’s College (Autonomous), Tiruchirappalli delivered a lecture on the topic “Research on stilbazolium crystal materials-overview”.
