The Post Graduate and Research Department of Historical Studies right from the inception as a U.G. Department in 1956 had a stellar performance. Since 1981-1982 the department is known for remarkable research activities which include Ph.D. Part-time Programme. It was upgraded to a full fledged research department in the year 2010. The department promotes a healthy research environment to support research interest among the faculty and students.  Focusing contemporary and relevant thrust areas in the History domain, the P.G. students are undertaking project work in their final semester. Faculty members as well as students engage themselves in research activities like publications in reputed journals and conference proceedings. There were 14 candidates who were awarded Ph.D. degree under Part-time and Full-time programme. Currently five candidates are pursuing, their Ph.D research.
