The Department of Mathematics was started in the year 1954, when the college was upgraded into a first-grade College and initially the department was headed by Prof. C.G. Ramamurthy. The vision of the Department is to establish it as a center of excellence for learning Mathematics. Keeping in view the socio-economic background of large number of students, serious and sincere efforts are being taken to improve their learning process. The highly qualified and experienced faculty members of the department provide a good mathematical foundation through quality teaching. The department performs well not only in academics but also in extra-curricular activities. The students actively participate in number of events in the intra and inter collegiate competitions and bring laurels to the department.

The Department has airy and well-spaced classrooms that provide best environment to the students. For the students benefit, we use Chalk and talk method of teaching as well as ICT method for good interaction and better understanding of the subject. Library books are available for the students for their reference to enhance their knowledge.
In the department, a group of students are assigned to each and every faculty for counseling. Through the counseling, we provide a comfortable environment for students to discuss their problems regarding their academic and social life. In our department we conduct Parent Teacher meeting at regular intervals to discuss how the student has been doing in college. Our students are participating in workshops and seminars in various colleges and universities to learn about the latest information and new skills related to the subject. The department association function is organized every year and eminent personalities are invited for guest lecture. Various competitions are conducted for students and the winners are given prizes and certificates. Every year a special prize is given to the student who is having 100% attendance. Students are encouraged to take part in the extension activities like NCC, NSS and YRC. Using all these facilities, many of the students went for higher studies and placed in good workplaces.

Every year a special prize is given to the outstanding student. Using all these opportunities and facilities, many of the students opt higher studies and excel in their professional career.
